Mercedes Sales in Japan Overtook Lexus

According to a Nikkei Newspaper article dated April 4th, German car manufacturer Daimler’s Mercedes-Benz outsold Toyota’s Lexus in the fiscal year 2013 for the first time in five years in Japan.

The article says that sales are growing for Mercedes’ compact models priced 4 million yen or less. I had an impression that Mercedes-Benz sold more expensive models.

Although it is certainly a matter of personal preferences, it makes sense that with an increase, many Japanese buyers would go for a Mercedes if two are in the same price range.
