According to an announcement made by Japan Polyethylene Corporation on March 28th, the company decided to stop a line of linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) manufacturing facilities in its Kashima Plant (annual output of 92,000 tons).
As a result, their production capacity will decrease from the current 260,000 tons to 168,000 tons.
As a background of this decision, there is an increase in import volume from Middle Eastern countries with an overwhelming price competitiveness.
With the increase in production capacity of petrochemical products in the Middle East and China, it would be essential for Japanese manufacturers to further shift their production focus from general purpose products to functional products.
